Hey Marseilles
Hey Marseilles is an indie rock band from Seattle, Washington.
According to the The Seattle Times, "...Hey Marseilles is a contender for a local rock band to break out in a significant way in 2013."
Elegy
We would like to resign somewhere along a wide mountainside
Sleep the street and sound of marching feet away or hide
We’ll give up on this town, the people who fill the air with their sound
Hear the noise of girls and boys abound. Rejoice.
I love you for your wit, not for the shit you spout in your dreams
Brace the ground and love you’ve finally found in me or leave
The wind won’t wait to blow you down
And leaves can change only so slow
So keep your legs on the concrete ground
The truth to find is in what we don’t know
Rio
Hey Marseilles was founded in 2006 by Matt Bishop and Nick Ward. The duo played together as students at the University of Washington, and were eventually joined by Ward's roommate Philip Kobernik. The three "used to jam at Gasworks Park in the summer and eventually made a few songs and started adding members from there." Hey Marseilles now includes six members, "with the instruments in the mix outnumbering the players."
Hey Marseilles released their first album, To Travels & Trunks, independently on 13 December 2008. It was ranked one of the best Northwest albums of the year. Seattle music blog Three Imaginary Girls said that it was one of their favorite ("if not [their] number one favorite") albums of the year.
Cannonballs
"To Travels and Trunks" was remastered and re-released nationally in the summer of 2010 in cooperation with Onto Entertainment.
The track "Rio" was described as "a worldly chamber-pop gem marked by a full-to-bursting, jauntily percussive sound in which seven people politely clamor to be heard."
Heart Beats
On March 5, 2013, Hey Marseilles released their second full-length album, "Lines We Trace".
