EINS

So this is it, the very first post on this brand-new blog. I'm afraid that what I'm listening to at the moment is not that brand-new anymore. However, to me it is, and I am actually quite excited about it.

Have you ever checked out WatchListenTell on Youtube? If not, do so straightaway. The channel has 'only' uploaded a mere 32 videos so far, but all of them are well worth watching - taking live music onto the street once again. A range of artists, mostly somewhat connected to indie music, are asked to do an acoustic set in some odd place - disused railway tracks, parks, homes, houseboats...the sound is excellent, the look of the films, too. I'm not good at describing visuals, but they use a mellow retro design which whizzes you into summer no matter how sad the music might be. A perfect blend of sound and visuals.

I just figured this is somehow related to the name of our blog - a collection of curiosities, and - taadaaa- now I have finally made the connection: Absynthe Minded, a Belgian band, have one of their songs recorded with WLT. It's called Envoi . And it is pure beauty. Sooo I got interested and checked out their other stuff, that is their self titled 2009 album, only to find out that every single song that I have been listening to is unexpectedly different from the last, varying from jazz, piano sounds and rock'n roll tunes to strange slow tracks such as 'Moodswing, Baby', and klezmer and/or gypsy sounds like on 'Fortress Europe'. (BTW: Did you notice the underlying theme of collections, varieties and curiosities?) Apparently that's also the sound the band chose in their earlier years - they have released 4 records so far. As I said, they're not brand-new, so there's plenty to discover. At least for me - they're big in Belgium. Wherever that is.
